Our Charges
Solicitor's bills are usually calculated on the basis of time taken in a particular matter. Fee earners are charged out at an hourly rate. Short letters received or written are charged as a tenth of the fee earner's hourly rate. Short telephone calls are charged in the same way. Longer letters or telephone calls which take longer than six minutes to be dealt with are charged in accordance with the time taken to deal with them.
The above rates of charge do not include VAT which will be levied on the total bill at the current rate (now 20%). You should inform the fee earner with conduict of your matter if you are VAT exempt. You will also be required to reimburse any expenses paid on your behalf such as court fees, expert's charges and so on. If there is an unusual amount of photocopying a charge of 20p a sheet will be made.
Standard court fees include:
- Issuing Divorce Proceedings £340
- Applying for decree absolute £45
- Applying for financial matters to be resolved £240
- Submitting an agreed financial order to court £45
- Making first application in relation to children matters £200
You will be asked for monies on account of costs on instructing this firm. You may also be asked for additional monies on account during the case. Rayden Solicitors will account to you fully at the end of the matter of all such monies you have paid. In the interim, any such monies paid will be held in our client account and may earn interest for you. It is important to note that these monies may be used for payment of outstanding bills. You will then be required to provide further monies on account.
It is the practice of Rayden Solicitors to prepare interim bills approximately every month as this assists with your budgeting and keeps costs up to date. Bills should be paid within 28 days. If they are not, then not only is interest payable from the date of the bill but it is likely that Rayden Solicitors will be unable to continue to assist you with your matter.
It is important to recognise that the outcome of your matter will make no difference to your final bill.
